Cherrapunji
or Charrapunji) is a town in the East Khasi Hills
district in the Indian state of Meghalaya. It is credited as being
the wettest place on Earth, but nearby Mawsynram currently holds that
record. Cherrapunji is located at n average elevation of 1,484
metres (4,869 ft) and sits on a plateau in the southern part of
the Khasi Hills, facing the stunning plains of Bangladesh.
Cherrapunji in general is a good place for trekking. The most popular
trekking route is the one that leads to the Double Decker Living
Root bridge in Nongriat village. It is advisable to hire a guide
for your treks.

Train :- Guwahati is
the nearest railhead to
Cherrapunji. Although it lies at a distance of 181 km from this
region, bus service or taxis can be availed from the railway station.
